This 2nd or 3rd Shift position requires proactive, independent, self-driven individuals who are experienced and knowledgeable in the operation of CNC Mills and Lathes.
General Description:
The Machinist position is a skilled trade position that machines REED tools and components utilizing CNC or manual machines to perform machining operations listed on routers. The position has skill level groups used to determine pay and “A” or “B” status (per UAW Contract).
The “A” Machinist must be able to setup, run, adjust programs and offsets, and inspect parts with minimal supervision to achieve a reasonable personal daily output.
The “B” Machinist must be able to run, make minor offset adjustments, and inspect parts with minimal supervision and minor assistance from group leader to achieve a reasonable personal daily output. “B” machinists are encouraged to work with Group leaders and “A” operators to learn skills to progress towards “A” status.
Responsibilities:
- *Set up*, load and run CNC mills in an assigned group of machines to maintain productivity and meet production requirements.
- *Set up*, load and run CNC lathes (multiple spindles, turrets, and live tooling) in an assigned group of machines and maintain productivity and meet production requirements. *Set up*, load and run bar feeders for lathes.
- *Set up*, run manual machines (lathes, mills, drills, grinder) as required.
- *Make tooling offsets, machine origins offsets and adjustments to ensure part quality*.
- *Set up* and run other machines as directed.
- Utilize drawings, *set up instructions*, routers, forms, inspection sheets, and system reports.
- Must accurately measure parts to specifications and maintain proper part quality conformance. Reports and records quality issues daily to the quality department.
- Performs operator maintenance on machinery (add coolant, change inserts, chip removal, etc)
- Maintain housekeeping and safe work environment.
- Keeps accurate records of job orders, time spent, and parts produced each day.
- Work as a team, make suggestions for improvement and communicate within the department to ensure continuity between all shifts departments.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A post high school degree in CNC Machining or completion of an Apprenticeship Program is a plus.
- In addition, the ideal performer will be a motivated self-starter with good interpersonal and technical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively on verbal and written levels.
Minimum Previous Experience:
- A minimum of five years’ experience working as a CNC *Set Up* Machinist.
- Possess a high mechanical aptitude.
- Continues learning to improve skills, to keep current with new equipment and methods and to be able to train other associates.
